The Challenge
Introduce an international product to consumers in the U.S.
The Orginial Product
My team and I discovered The Wandant, a pet pedometer created by Fujitsu. Released in Japan in the Fall of 2012, this product was the first of its kind in the pet care industry. The Wandant tag attaches to a pet's collar and automatically measures steps, shivering and temperature changes. The measured data is then recorded by the Wandant tag and is uploaded to a cloud communication service which, allows pet owners to create a diary of their dogs health. Pet owners can even choose to add additional informaiton, like food volume, stool conditions, and current weight.

Issue
Today’s dogs are no longer considered pets, but members of the family. Most pet parents and families are unaware that calories in dog food, treats and table scraps add up for dogs just as they do for humans. This lack of awareness causes a major disconnect between reality and what a dog parent thinks is obese. Out of 78 Million dogs in the U.S. over half are overweight or obese, causing many to suffer from other health issues like diabetes, osteoarthritis, hypertension and many types of cancers.
Business Opportunity
Offer the first pet pedometer in the industry that allows people to track the journey of their pet’s health through a device with cloud service capabilities.
Research Methods
Qualitative:
Ethnographies with current obese dog owners, 1:1 Interviews with local veterinarians, Social scouring, Pet store visits
Quantitative:
Survey with 106 respondents who currently own at least one dog, age 18-55
